Singapore-The government of Thailand has approved a Baht 37.5 billion ($1.1 billion) subsidy package to keep a lid on prices of gasoil, natural gas for vehicles and LPG, in an effort to stimulate the local economy, Energy Minister Wannarat Charnnukul said. Under the scheme, approved August 11 by the country's National Energy Policy Council chaired by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, the retail prices of gasoil and 5% biodiesel-blend-ed gasoil, or B5, are to be lowered by Baht 2 (5.8 cents)/liter and Baht 0.40/l respectively. B5 is currently retailing in Thailand at Baht 26.89/l and gasoil at Baht 29.69/l.
