Japan's Tepco boosts oil, LNG use in July

Tokyo-Japan's Tokyo Electric Power Company consumed more crude, fuel oil and LNG in July than in June, but saw consumption drop year on year amid reduced power demand as a result of the weaker economy, company officials said August 12. Japan's largest utility's oil and LNG consumption increased in July, as it stepped up generating rates to make up for shortfalls in electricity from other companies which have been supplementing Tepco's power supplies in the wake of the extended outage of its earthquake-hit Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant in northwestern Japan, sources close to the matter said. Some of the companies that have been providing Tepco with additional electricity suffered production glitches through the month.
