OPEC slashes 2009 oil demand forecast citing worsening economy

London-OPEC December 15 slashed its forecast of world oil demand in 2009 on the back of the worsening world economy, giving its members further evidence of a gloomy oil market as they meet in Algeria to consider cutting output. In its latest monthly oil market report, OPEC said demand for its own crude in the coming months was likely to be well below current production levels, warning of a growing market imbalance.
