Dubai-A crude oil tanker owned by Saudi Arabian state-owned oil giant Saudi Aramco and operated by its tanker division Vela was attacked by pirates in the Indian Ocean two days ago and is now under the control of the hijackers, a spokesman for the US Navy 5th Fleet in Bahrain said November 17. The attack is the first in recent years against a crude tanker and also took place well outside the main area where pirates from lawless Somalia threaten shipping heading into and out of the Red Sea, according to the 5th Fleet.
