Buenos Aires-Three of the biggest oil producers in Argentina, including Brazil's state-controlled Petrobras and Spain's Repsol YPF, December 10 signed agreements for widespread exploration off the coasts of Argentina and Brazil, a largely unexplored region. Petrobras and its Argentine subsidiary, Petrobras Energia (PESA), will work with Rep-sol's Argentine unit, YPF, to carry out exploration studies to identify possible oil and gas reserves in the South Atlantic, according to a joint statement. The area stretches from the coast of Porto Alegre, Brazil, to the waters south of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, at the tip of South America.
