Global Bioenergies Produces First Isobutene From 'Second Generation' Waste Biomass

Evrv— Global Bioenergies said preliminary tests have resulted in successful second generation isobutene production at laboratory scale using non-edible resources. The company has been using first generation feedstock, such as wheat-derived glucose, to set-up and optimize its bio-based isobutene process, which was designed to be flexible in terms of feedstock. "With the right technical adaptations, it would indeed be well suited to the usage of non-edible resources" such as wheat straw, corn stover, sugar cane bagasse or wood chips.
