Dubai—Customs regulations reforms are crucial if the export-oriented Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is to reach its goal of producing 190-million tons of products by 2020, according to the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Assn. (GPCA). GPCA Secretary General Abdulwahab Al-Sadoun noted that the GCC petrochemical industry has been growing at a compound annual growth rate of 8% over the past five years, increasing to 67.6-million tons in 2014 from 37.2-million tons in 2008.
