Mexico's government has awarded production - sharing contracts for three out of five shallow - water Gulf of Mexico blocks being auctioned in the second stage of a multistage bid round launched last year. Officials were quick to call the latest auction, which included only fields with certified reserves, a success. Indeed, the 60% take - up rate marked a sharp improvement from the result of the first auction in July, when upstream regulator CNH awarded just two out of 14 shallow - water exploration blocks ( OD Jul.16'15 ).
