EC halts BHPB-RioTinto merger investigation

THE European Commission investigation into the competition effects of a merger between BHP Billiton and RioTinto has been suspended, pending further information from the companies. The commission was expected to deliver its findings in November but a new deadline will be set once it has received the additional information.
