FeCr prices rise in India, S Korea after restrictions on Tata

High carbon ferro-chrome prices have risen by as much as 11% since January in South Korea and India, as a result of problems with Tata Steel's lease of the Sukinda chrome ore mine and its licence to toll convert chrome units, market sources said. Tata was forced to suspend production at its 2.4-million-tpy Sukinda mine in Orissa, India in January, when the lease expired. At the same time the company temporarily lost its licence to toll convert beneficiated chrome ore into high carbon ferro-chrome, sources said.
