Third-quarter charge chrome prices have settled at 2.05 dollars per Ib, up around 7 percent on the previous quarter, market sources confirmed to MB last week. The settlement is a fresh record for contract prices, which have jumped from the second quarter benchmark of 1.92 dollars per Ib on tight supply from South Africa and the soaring cost of raw materials. Producers and consumers have reached a "fair compromise", one market source told MB, after stainless steel mills reported weaker demand for their product in the third quarter.
