JCB, which has taken a considerable knock from the downturn in the construction sector, decided to face the music and kick-start the new year with a huge employee training programme. The positive approach was even picked up by Skills secretary John Denham, who praised it as an example of good practice during a House of Commons debate, adding that firms that invested in training were more likely to survive the recession and be ready when an upturn came around.
