Repsol Cleared for Canary Action

Spain's Repsol has finally overcome a number of environmental appeals and secured government approval to start exploring off the Canary Islands. The decision paves the way for a $7 billion exploration project. Two years ago, permits were granted by the government for exploration to be conducted off the Fuerteventura and Lanzarote Islands, but a number of subsequent environmental appeals had made it impossible for activities to proceed (IOD Jun.25'14).
