Bashneft Eyes Partners for Iraq Bid Round

Russia’s Bashneft is gearing up to compete for Iraq’s vast oil and gas reserves, holding talks with a number of international firms about forming an alliance to bid during the upcoming fourth licensing round. The 300,000 barrel per day producer has refused to reveal potential partners, but Russian business daily Kommersant has named state Petrovietnam and UK independent Premier Oil as companies with which Bashneft plans to form a consortium for Iraq’s bid round, scheduled for Apr. 11-12. A total of 12 new oil and gas exploration blocks will be up for grabs (IOD Jan.5’12).
