Southern Sudan has failed to agree a deal on sharing its oil revenues with the north and stands to lose billions of dollars for as long as the standoff continues. Despite the Republic of South Sudan becoming independent on Saturday, the north will continue to receive 50% of the revenues from southern oil fields while negotiations on future relations between the two states remain deadlocked.
