Power company Exelon struck a deal to buy rival Constellation Energy for $7.9 billion in a bid to become the largest generato of competitively priced electricity in the US It would be the latest in a string of deals in the fragmented US utility industry, which faces new costs to upgrade power grids and meet environmental controls.
