Japan Sets Up New Nuke Agency

Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan said on Monday that the environment ministry will start regulating the nuclear power industry next April. The existing Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (Nisa) and Nuclear Safety Commission will be merged and reorganized into a new nuclear safety agency overseen by the environment ministry. This new agency will also incorporate radiation and other environmental monitoring functions now carried out by the education, culture, sports, science and technology ministry.
