The UK's Centrica has spudded the Butch prospect, which straddles licenses PL405 and 405BS in the Norwegian North Sea, partner Faroe Petroleum said Monday. UK-listed independent Faroe has a 15% interest in Butch - a stratigraphic pinch-out trap resting on the side of a salt dome. The firm said the primary target is the upper Jurassic Ula formation, which is the producing reservoir in the nearby Ula, Tambar and Gyda fields. Operator Centrica will drill the well using the Maersk Guardian rig and hopes to complete it in the fourth quarter.
