Sales to Former Soviet Countries Boost Profits at Gazprom

Russian Gazprom said its profits climbed 24% year-on-year to almost 1 trillion rubles ($36.3 billion) in 2010 as stronger sales to former Soviet Union (FSU) countries and higher domestic tariffs offset persistently weak sales to Europe, for which the state gas giant blamed excessive volumes of LNG on the market.
