Western Australia Environment Minister Bill Marmion has set what he describes as "24 tough conditions to limit environmental impacts" that must be met before the Wheat-stone LNG development at Onslow can go ahead (IOD Jun.16'11). "These strict conditions will protect marine fauna, including whales, turtles and dugongs, require [$A13 million ($US13.5 million)] in environmental offsets, and require the company to offset reservoir greenhouse gases which may be up to 2.6 million tons each year," he said. They also set strict conditions on dredging to limit the impact on coral reefs, including the right to suspend dredging.
