Chinese import data out Thursday suggestdemand in the world’s biggest oil consumerafter the US is slowing.Figures from the General Administrationof Customs show China imported 20.45 mil-lion tons, or 4.997 million barrels per day, ofcrude oil in September — more than 21%down on year-earlier levels. The drop is part-ly because the base for comparison was veryhigh — crude oil imports in September2010 touched a record high of 5.69 millionb/d — but also suggests Chinese oil demandgrowth is slowing in line with economicgrowth (IOD Oct.14’10).
