ConocoPhillips is going all out to plug three oil leaks at its giant Peng Lai 19-3 field in Bohai Bay offshore northeastern China, amid fears the spills could be much bigger than reported. The US major said last week that 2,500 barrels of oil-based drilling mud (OBM) - a substance used in drilling operations - had leaked, double its earlier 1,500 bbl estimate (IOD Aug.16'11). As of Thursday, it said over 3,000 bbl of OBM had been collected.
