Crystal Chemistry of Lead Oxide Hydroxide Nitrates (III. The Crystal Structure of Pb_3O_2(OH)(NO_3))

The lead oxide hydroxide nitrate, Pb_3O_2(OH)(NO_3), has been synthesized by hydrothermal methods. The crystal structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and refined to R1 = 0.044. The compound is orthorhombic, space group Pca2_1, a = 14.149(2)A, b = 8.7668(12)A, c = 5.7124(8)A, V = 708.6(2)a~3, z = 4. The structure is based on [Pb_3O_2](OH) sheets that are parallel to (100). (NO_3) triangles are parallel to the (001) plane. The Pb coordination polyhedra are strongly distorted due to the influence of lone pair electrons.
