摘要

New Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(IT) and VO(IV) complexes of the Schiff base, N'-[(E)-3-bromo-5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzylidene]nicotinohydrazide have been synthesized and characterized by NMR, MS, IR, electronic, magnetic measurements, EPR, redox properties and XRD.The ligand coordinates through one of the phenolic-O, azomefhine-N and amide-0 atoms to metal ions as shown by IR measurements. Electronic and magnetic measurements have been corroborative of a square-planar geometry for Cu(II) complex, octahedral geometry for Ni(II). Co(II) complexes and square pyramidal geometry for vanadium complex. The observed anisotropic 'g' values also confirm the presence of Cu(II) in a square planar environment and VO(IV) complex in a square pyramidal coordination geometry around the metal centre. The" redox properties of the metal complexes have been investigated by cyclic voltammetry. Preliminary antibacterial screening shows the promising results against bacterial strains. The compounds have shown promising cytotoxic activity when screened using the in vitro method on human breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7) cells.
