摘要

Endohedral metallofullerenes (EMFs), a new family of metal-carbon hybrid molecules formed by encapsulation of metallic species inside fullerene cages, have attracted a great deal of attention because of their unique structures, fascinating properties, and potential applications in such fields as materials science, photovoltaics, nanoelectronics, and bio-medicine. During the past two decades, many examples of EMFs encapsulating a wide range of metallic species have been successfully synthesized and characterized. The results showed that not only pure metals, but also some otherwise unstable metallic species, such as a cluster of metal carbide (M2C2M3C2MliC2), metal nitride (M3N),metal oxide (M2O/M4O2/M4O3), metal sulfide (M2S), and even metal cyanide (M3CN) can also be encapsulated inside fullerene cages, thereby forming stable cluster-EMFs.
