The short-term outlook for the North American stainless steel industry is mixed, depending on whether it is from the viewpoint of buyers, distributors or metals makers. As 2015 came to an end, much of the outlook was pessimistic, as reduced demand over the holiday period exacerbated already depressed prices, with little hope of recovery until the end of the first quarter of 2016, according to industry sources. This was especially true for service centers.
