摘要

The European Commission intends to propose that EU member states be given the freedom to opt out of EU approvals for genetically modified crops and products for import and use in food and feed. The move would mirror a new law regarding the cultivation of GM crops, which enables countries to impose national restrictions or bans on EU-approved lines. In a draft paper seen by Agrow sister publication Agra Europe, the Commission says that current procedures must be changed because they do not allow for individual member-state concerns “in a controversial area of great public interest”. Industry and environmentalist groups have already warned against the political shift towards renationalisation of GMO rules.
