The US EPA's pesticide risk assessment process is inadequate and biased in favour of industry, says a group of ecotoxicologists. The researchers contend that the Agency relies too heavily on toxicity tests conducted by pesticide manufacturers and wrongly bars consideration of other relevant studies. The risk assessment process does not account for industry conflicts of interest, the scientists argue, and "increases the likelihood that only industry-supplied data will be used in the risk assessments ... which potentially obscures the impact of a pesticide so that risks cannot be responsibly managed".
