'Best practices' in horticulture industry training along with the benefits of industry training are described. Key factors contributing to successful industry training are identified. The importance of a collaborative relationship between the three parties involved in industry training, the trainee, employer and the New Zealand Horticulture Industry Training Organisation (NZHITO) Training Advisor is described in a model that will enable businesses to improve productivity and capability gains for industry trainees, businesses, communities and the country. Findings are based on a qualitative survey of 19 selected horticultural businesses in New Zealand that were recommended as being particularly effective in their industry training practices. The survey was made to document existing best-practice industry training practices in the horticulture industry. Businesses were selected across a range of horticultural sectors, ranging in size from small with less than three employees to large corporate businesses with over 300 employees, and were geographically spread across the country.
