A fast, computer tomography system (speedlscan CT 16) for industrial use, developed from gantry based helical computer tomographs used in medicine, was introduced in 2011 by GE Measurement & Control . Test parts up to a length of 900 mm and 500 mm in diameter, and up to 50 kg in weight, are scanned with speeds of up to several millimetres per second and automatically analysed with the aid of special speed-optimised algorithms for three-dimensional recognition of deviations (Automatic Deviation Recognition - 3D ADR). Since then, three years of experience are available from the use of equipment of this type in foundries. The purpose of this paper is to assess the results gained in evaluation studies and to indicate further routes for development.
