India aiming for urea self-sufficiency in five years

The Government intends to achieve self-sufficiency in urea production in next five years. This was stated by President Pratibha Devsingh Patil in her recent address to Parliament, marking the start of the budget session. "Availability of all subsidised fertilisers has been ensured as per the requirements during the year. The ministry is working on a comprehensive fertilisermonitoring system which would present information on fertiliser availability to the farmers through SMS, internet and telephone.
