Japanese company develops technology to recycle nickel from plating effluents

Japan Kanigen (Tokyo) has developed a system to recover nickel from the effluent of an electroless nickel plating plant, a first for the industry. The system will help reduce the environmental burden of the plating process. The two-stage solvent extraction method extracts and removes impurities like iron before recovering the nickel. It uses an extraction agent to cut extraction time to one-sixth, leading to significantly enhanced processing capacity and more compact equipment. Trial operations on a scale of 20-tpm (tons per month) processing capacity are currently underway.
