On polyphagy of the fir sawyer beetle Monochamus urussovii (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae)

The possibility of Monochamus urussovii Fisch to pass through all stages of development on aspen (Populus tremula L.) and birch (Betula pubescens L.) trees, apart from conifers, was shown in the Krasnoyarsk region of Siberia, Russia, in 1996. Aspenwas recorded as a host plant of this beetle for the first time. The ability to develop on aspen and birch is presumed to be an adaptation to successions in the course of which native coniferous forests are replaced with secondary deciduous ones.
