ESTIMATED NUMBERS OF CRANES (GRUIFORMES, GRUIDAE) IN NORTHERN EURASIA AT THE BEGINNING OF THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY

摘要

The estimated numbers of cranes (Gruiformes, Gruidae) (Siberian (Leucogeranus leucogeranus), Red crowned (Gras japonensis), Hooded (G. monacha), Common (G. grus), White-naped (Antigone vipio), Sand hill (A. canadensis), and Demoiselle (Anthropoides virgo)) in Northern Eurasia at the beginning of the twenty-first century are presented. The numbers of some crane species have grown, mainly because of increasing the food resources during migrations and wintering. However, some species and populations are still threatened or endangered due to the intensive economic development and long-term drought.
