Sympatry zone of Alpine (Ochotona alpina) and Northern (O-hyperborea) pikas on the Putorana Plateau with description of new subspecies (Ochotona hyperborea naumovi ssp n.) [Russian]

The diagnostic characteristics, distribution, and habiats of two sympatric species on the Putorana Plateau Alpine and Northern pikas - are discussed. The Latin name turuchanensis (Naumov, 1934) is shown to belong to the Alpine pika. O. alpina turuchanensis differs from southern species of Alpine pika by summer and winter plumage and some aspects of its alarm call, but there is not enough evidence to identify this species as independent one. Northern pikas of the Putorana Plateau are described as the new subspecies Ochotona hyperborea naumovi.
