Development of a Baseband Modem SOC(System On Chip) for the GMR-1 3G Mobile Satellite Applications

Design and development of the GMR-1 3G baseband modem SOC which is compliant with ETSI GMR-1 3G air interface standard is introduced in this paper. The SOC includes a Cortex-A5 CPU core for protocol stack, a Teaklite II DSP core for signal processing, a multi-layer AXI/AHB bus, and various useful peripheral blocks such as USB, UART, DDR2/LPDDR2 memory controller, etc. It also has GMR-1 3G modem engine and channel codec(Turbo, LDPC, Convolution code) inside. This GMR-1 3G baseband modem SOC also supports the GMR-1 Air Interface to provide backward compatibility and is going to be installed in hand-held terminal and various types of terminals providing voice and high-speed packet data.
