摘要

A change in the physical flutter rate of a clicking sound induces a simultaneous change in the apparent flicker rate of a flashing light. This phenomenon is regarded as evidence for the auditory dominance over vision in temporal perception. In our experiments, 12 participants were asked to judge not only the change in the velocity of visual apparent movement hut also the change in the auditory flutter rate. The results showed that the velocity of apparent motion drove perceived auditory flutter rate under the condition where ambiguous auditory temporal cues were presented. This suggests that cross-modal asymmetrical effects are not determined by modality appropriateness, but by the reliability of the visual and auditory information.
