SHORTLY BEFORE THE end of 2013, several Chinese aviation enterprises made efforts to end the year on a high, unveiling a number of new prototypes and modernized versions of existing aircraft. For the J-20 fighter project, 2012 saw both prototypes (serials 2001 and 2002) being sent to the CFTE in Xi'an-Yanliang, suggesting that the test program had moved to the next stage. Weapons integration tests included the new PL-10 infra-red-guided missile in early 2013, and the new long-range PL-15 later in 2013. Surprisingly, it seems as if aircraft 2002 has been renumbered as 2004. Meanwhile, serial 2001 was repainted in a two-tone gray color scheme.
