摘要

We try to derive a simple method for estimating the hydrodynamic pressure for concrete gravity dams due to horizontal earthquakes. In the previous papers, the authors showed the effect of the reservoir shape regarding the pressure through the 2- and 3-dimensional boundary element method. Then in this paper, we proposed convenient nomograms and estimation equations for the total pressure on the dam face, total moment, etc. by using the distribution of the hydrodynamic pressure along file dam up-face as the results of our previous research. You can estimate the hydrodynamic pressure easily as the existing method and this method has a much a wider applicability range. So this method is very useful regarding the first step of designing concrete gravity dams.
