Chemical injury of 'Kyoho' grapes and mortality for two-spotted spider mite fumigated with phosphine and mixtures of phosphine and methyl bromide.

The effects of phosphine and mixtures of phosphine and methyl bromide on the 'Kyoho' variety of grapes and two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae) eggs were determined. No injury was observed to grapes fumigated with phosphine at 1.5 and 3 g m-3 for 24 h at 15鳦, whereas grapes fumigated with phosphine at 3 g m-3 and methyl bromide at 14 g m-3 for 4 h at 15鳦 suffered severe damage (fruit softening or rotting and berries dropping from the cap stem). Complete mortality of T. urticae eggs followed treatment with phosphine at 2 g m-3 for 24 h at 15鳦.
