Cottonseed meal was hydrolysed using a combination of cellulose, pectinase and papain to extract oil and to prepare protein hydrolysate, simultaneously. The results indicated that 80% oil could be released in 24 h by enzymatic treatment of the meal. Simultaneously a good quality protein hydrolysate was obtained. The degree of hydrolysis was 22.4% while an average peptide linkage was 4.4. The protein hydrolysate had about 52% protein with good profile of amino acids. Thus, two products could be obtained simultaneously by enzymatic treatment of cottonseed meal.
