Flow measurement and control through a pipe requires three devices namely a flow meter, control valve and a controller. This scheme causes pressure drop in the flow measurement which in turn leads to usage of more energy for pumping the fluid. Earlier works in this direction have several drawbacks such as increased computing time, less accurate results etc. This paper reports a novel method for flow measurement and control using fuzzy logic principles together with a neural network topology. The flow measurement is monitored by the neural network and flow control is performed using fuzzy logic principle with ARM9 (AT91RM9200) processor. The proposed scheme offers improved dynamic response together with reduced computation time. The viability of the methodology proposed is illustrated through intensive simulation as well as real time implementation.
