Conical tank system is a non-linear system which is used in many industrial sectors such as Chemical industries, Petroleum industries, Paper industries, Water treatment plants, Fermentation industries, etc...Control of liquid level in conical tank system is highly difficult due to variation in the area of cross section of conical tank system with change in shape. In the proposed work, modeling of conical tank system is first done. Designed the model based controllers which are then used to analyse the performance of conical tank system. Next, the servo and regulatory responses are also observed. Various controllers are designed and implemented using Matlab. From the responses of model based controllers, the Internal Model Controller (IMC) controller gives better performance which is measured in terms of overshoot, setpoint tracking and settling time when compared to conventional PID controller and Model Reference Adaptive Controller (MRAC).
