Multilevel inverters offer several advantages compared to the conventional 3-phase bridge inverter in terms of lower dv/dt stresses, lower electromagnetic compatibility, elimination of dominant harmonics, smaller rating and better output features, cause heat in the stator windings. The heat produced in stator windings will minimizes the life time of the windings. This paper presents the measurement of heat in stator windings using PWM drive method and compared the results with a 3-level Neutral-Point-Clamped inverter using FPGA.
