Photon counting system is a technique for measuring low light levels and is finding increasing applications in Raman spectroscopy. In photon counting, the pulse mode operation of the photomultiplier tube (PMT) is exploited which provides direct digital data. PMT is used in the photon counting system where photons are detected as current pulse of a few nano sec risetime. A low cost instrumentation design using a single chip dual op amp and with and with a discriminator circuit for the photon counting system application is presented in this paper.
