The moderating effect of medication review on polypharmacy and loneliness in older Chinese adults in primary care

To the Editor: Age-related physiological changes may generate various health problems in older adults and result in dependency on medications. Poor medication adherence may worsen the problem of social isolation, especially in individuals with schizophrenia and a limited social network.1 Social isolation is also a determinant of misuse and abuse of and dependence on prescribed drugs in older adults.2 This suggests a possible interdependent relationship between polypharmacy and social isolation.
