IgA nephropathy patients with heavy proteinuria and cellular crescent formation are typically treated with corticosteroids [Barratt and Freehally 2006]. If corticosteroids are ineffective, additional immunosuppressive agents, such as cyclophosphamide and aza-thioprine, are recommended [Barratt and Freehally 2006]. The efficacy and safety of MZR have been demonstrated in childhood IgA nephropathy patients in Japan [Kawasaki et al. 2004, Yoshikawa et al. 2008].
