Developing an appropriate incentive plan/dealing with leadership opportunities.

During my tenure as the chair of a moderately sized academic department, I had many of what I thought were wonderful ideas. The key to determining the best of these may be the frame of reference: mine or that of my subordinates. Perhaps, however, the most appropriate measure is which ideas are still valued by my successor and still in use. Using this methodology, I would consider developing a workable incentive and bonus system for my department to have been my best idea as chairman.
