摘要

A nanometer is a significant length scale, for nano-structures are the smallest human-made devices at the con-fluence of atoms and most molecules of the natural world. Nanoscience and nanotechnology refer to the science and technology whose theme is control of matter at the length scale of approximately 1 to 100 nanometers. This research is highly interdisciplinary because of different synthetic methodologies, structural design and application involved, as well as various physical characterization techniques used. Especially, Nanoscience and nanotechnology have the great potential to create many new materials and novel devices, such as in medicine, electronics, environmental science and economy. Its far-reaching impact to both fun-damental science and potential industrial application has been widely recognized in the past two decades and keeps growing. Among the "Outline of National Medium- and Long-term Science and Technology Development Plan for 2006-2020" in China, nanoresearch is schemed as one of the three high-priority national key scientific programs, with other two researches on protein and quantum modu-lation. A strong interest in capturing the current state-of-the-art in this fast-growing field, along with the desire of sharing ideas both from the theoretical and experimental point of view, as well as stimulating research collaboration among the different stakeholders in the area of nanoscience and technology, has prompted such an international con-ference on nanoscience and technology to be organized in China annually.
