Bombus Latr. pollination of Arctic-alpine Pedicularis L.

With approximately 700 primarily herbaceous species ranging mostly from the Montane to the Arctic-alpine zones in the Northern Hemisphere, the genus Pedicularis exhibits a wide variety of personate (bilaterally symmetrical) flowers forming close functional associations with insects, primarily bumble bees (Bombus Latr.). The present study is a brief reevaluation of published concepts of plant-pollinator associations in Pedicularis in light of more recent data from Palearctic Arctic-Alpine regions.
